Orphan X
A lone-wolf operative with elite training and a moral code. Faster pacing, more gadgets, same satisfying justice.
Jack Reacher is a former US Army Military Police major who drifts across America with nothing but a toothbrush, stumbling into trouble wherever he goes. Lee Child's series blends tight plotting with a uniquely satisfying brand of justice. The books work fine in any order, but reading by publication date lets you watch Child refine the formula.

Book #1, and still the best on-ramp. It sets up everything that makes this series work.
If you love Jack Reacher, try these next.
A lone-wolf operative with elite training and a moral code. Faster pacing, more gadgets, same satisfying justice.
A retired Marine sniper pulled back into action. Heavier on firearms detail and rural America.
A CIA assassin on the run. Globe-trotting missions, relentless action, and a protagonist who can disappear in plain sight.
No. Most books are standalone with a self-contained plot. Publication order gives you the best sense of how the character evolves, but you can jump in anywhere.
One Shot became the 2012 film Jack Reacher, and Never Go Back became the 2016 sequel, both starring Tom Cruise. Amazon's Reacher TV series launched in 2022 with Alan Ritchson, starting with Killing Floor.
Andrew Child (Lee Child's brother, writing under his birth name Andrew Grant) joined as co-author starting with The Sentinel in 2020. The books keep the same structure, though some longtime readers notice a slightly different prose rhythm.
