Great books - just not first.
Book 4 of the sequel series Heroes of Olympus. It requires knowledge of the first 8 books across two series.
A companion novel featuring Nico di Angelo that assumes you have read both the original series and Heroes of Olympus.
The sweet spot is ages 8 to 12, but plenty of adults love the series. The writing is accessible without being dumbed down, and the mythology is genuinely well-researched.
Books first if possible. The show is faithful but condenses a lot. Kids who read the books first tend to enjoy both more. That said, the show is a fine entry point if your kid resists reading.
Start with Percy Jackson (5 books), then Heroes of Olympus (5 books). After that, The Kane Chronicles, Magnus Chase, and Trials of Apollo can be read in any order.
