Wings of Fire books in order

by Tui T. Sutherland - 15 books - 2012-2022 - Updated June 2026

Seven dragon tribes have been at war for decades, and a prophecy says five young dragonets will end it. Wings of Fire is told entirely from dragon perspectives, with each book following a different dragonet narrator. Sutherland builds a detailed world with distinct dragon cultures, political systems, and moral dilemmas that earn the series comparisons to Redwall and Warriors. Three story arcs span three different continents and sets of characters.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Each arc builds on the last, and characters from earlier arcs appear in later ones. The narrator changes every book, but the overarching story is continuous.

Legends (Darkstalker, Dragonslayer) are full-length companion novels that add backstory. Read Darkstalker between books 6 and 9. Winglets are short stories available as ebooks. Both are optional but rewarding.

Ages 8-12. The books deal with war, death, and moral choices, but the violence is not graphic. Younger readers who can handle the themes will be fine. The dragon narrator perspective makes the content feel one step removed.
